Colorado Horse Rescue Contact List and Information:With the economy the way it is, and with the world constantly changing, sometimes circumstances dictate that horses can no longer be cared for by their owners. If this happens to you, we ask you to contact a horse rescue organization. There are other things these organizations can help with as well: If your horse becomes very ill, badly hurt, or is facing emergency surgery you can't afford, CONTACT A RESCUE. If your horse is lame, a senior, or has behavioral problems that you are unable to deal with, or if you just have too many horses, CONTACT A RESCUE. A horse might not be able to be ridden or used, but it can still be a good companion animal and live comfortably if turned out to pasture or fed a special diet. I say it again, and not for the last time: CONTACT A RESCUE.The old practice of shooting horses that are unwanted, lame or unable to work... well those were the OLD days. Shooting your horse is (thankfully) no longer acceptable or tolerated in today's society. CONTACT A HORSE RESCUE. Sometimes horses are too ill or too severely injured to be saved. However, you should leave that determination and the carrying out of that task to the trained professionals. A good vet will tell you if there is no chance and it is time to humanely end suffering, otherwise, you should never destroy a horse that can be saved. If you don't have the time, patience, money, etc., you guessed it: CONTACT A RESCUE. Below is a contact list of Horse Rescue Organizations in Colorado. If you find information that needs to be updated, or would like to get your rescue organization listed, please contact us and include full contact details, web address if available, and a description. **** IF YOU SEE HORSES BEING ABUSED OR NEGLECTED, PLEASE, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, your local humane society, animal shelter, or animal control agency! In Colorado, if you can't readily find a local office nearby, you can contact the Humane Society Western Regional Office. **** (Please note: While Heaven's Gateway Horse Rescue is a NO KILL shelter, we have not screened the shelters on this list. We strongly suggest checking with your local Humane Society, researching, or personally checking out shelters before dropping off or asking them to pick up an animal in need.)
